In May 2020, HSEG completed the acquisition of a stake in NBA Africa LLC, a new entity to conduct all National Basketball Association (“NBA”) business in Africa, including the Basketball Africa League (“BAL”) – a partnership between the NBA and the International Basketball Federation (“FIBA”) and the NBA’s first collaboration to operate a league outside of North America.

The 2024 BAL season featured the top 12 club teams from 12 African countries playing a record 48 games in South Africa, Egypt, Senegal and Rwanda. NBA Africa has all the rights to the NBA’s IP across Africa, (including US league distribution rights), alongside full ownership of the BAL and all other new NBA business in Africa, into perpetuity.
