Paul Cunningham

Paul Cunningham joined Helios in 2008 as Chief Financial Officer, bringing over 36 years of experience in private equity finance, administration, and financial control. At Helios, Paul oversees accounting, financial control, taxation, fund administration, reporting, and regulatory compliance. His expertise extends to deal and fund structuring, Limited Partnership Agreements (LPAs) negotiations, and chairing the firm’s Valuation Committees.

Prior to Helios, Paul served as CFO and COO at Barclays Private Equity, where he led finance and administration for various funds and proprietary business operations. Earlier in his career, he held senior finance roles at major investment banks, including Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse, after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Whinney in 1989. Paul also serves as Chairman of the International Private Equity and Venture Capital Valuation Guidelines (IPEV) Board, contributing to the development of global best practices in valuation. He holds a BS (Hons) in Mathematics from Imperial College London.

Paul is passionate about driving collaboration, improving oversight, and strengthening risk management processes within Helios. He believes that today’s CFOs are trusted business leaders and innovators, leveraging their roles to unlock growth and create value across the organization.

Outside of work, Paul enjoys the outdoors and spending time with his family.
