Mr Hartmann, a dual citizen of Brazil and the US, has 30+ years’ experience in corporate finance, from venture capital to leveraged buyouts to public equities and real estate, during which time he has led or been involved in over $2 billion of private equity investments. Prior to joining Helios in 2007, he managed concentrated portfolios of US public equities, as the founder and managing partner of SF Capital Partners and as a partner of R. Elliot King & Associates. From 1995-2002, Mr Hartmann served as a Principal at TPG Capital, where he worked in the firm’s Generalist Group and with its Latin American affiliate, Newbridge Latin America. Previously, he was a Vice President with IVP, a Brazilian venture capital firm; and began his career as an Investment Officer at the IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group. Mr Hartmann has an MS in International Finance and Accounting from The London School of Economics and Political Science, and a BS in Finance from the American University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.
Mr Hartmann is the sole principal of an independent entity, MH Advisory Services LLC, a US registered investment advisor which acts as sub-advisor to funds managed by Helios. Mr Hartmann serves as an independent member of the Helios Investment Partners Investment Committee; until July 2014, he was a Partner at Helios as well as a member of the Helios Investment Committee. In addition to his role at Helios, he serves on the investment committees of SKS Investments, a San Francisco-based real estate investment firm; and Proximity Parks, a Mexico-based real estate investment firm focused on last-mile logistics properties. Mr Hartmann has also served as a lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he taught a course on frontier markets private equity, and as a member of the investment committee of the Strategic Investment Fund (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation), as well as on the board of numerous companies.
